Another Review for Tell This To Girls: The Panic Annie Poems
Displaying a dazzling array of forms & moods, styles & modes, the poems in this book attempt a chronicle, but one which is (as all good chronicles truly are) emotional first & only built out of time when necessary.
Here we have poems that are written clearly & powerfully, combining an important scene with memorable diction & word choice. “Panic Annie, Bearing a Veil” is a good example of this tendency in the poems. Beginning with a strong endstopped line which evokes as much as it tells, the reader is able to feel their way into the intuitive truth of the scene, learning so much in the process.
The book is broken up into sections & this works well as a thematic & emotional ordering scheme.
